The Petrobas scandal in Brazil isn't helping the countries already lagging economy. Amid decreasing GDP growth, decreasing exports, and frightened FDI, the country is now considering the Impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff for her involvement with the oil company scandal.
Having just entered her 2nd term, she's facing serious opposition and decreasing polls. How will this impact overall risks in Brazil? Last week, she made a public statement that declared she would fight for her innocence. It appears the issue will drag on, without a foreseeable resolution. In the short term, this will shock markets and investment, which are already crippled by decreased demand from China, one of Brazil's top trade partners. However, in the long term risks are still quite high as internal and external pressures have lead to increased political and economic uncertainty.
